Last night (Tuesday), we gathered for the first time to drink some wine and tell stories. I informed everyone that, sometime during the trip, each of us will share his or her own favorite story. That seems to have struck fear in the hearts of some members of our group. People keep asking me for ideas and suggestions. Should be interesting!
We talked a bit about Aristophanes’ play, which we’ll see tonight, and then we told mythological tales that can be seen as explanatory of the historic ties between Greece and Sicily. I expanded on the last of those stories–the tale of Odysseus and the cyclops Polyphemus. There’s a voodoo element in the story that most people don’t catch. Come with us to Sicily next year to learn all about it!
I hope everybody else enjoyed the mythological story as much as I did. It’s hard to beat wine, stories, and good friends.
